Megyn Kelly's embrace of the 'Tampon Tim' insult is backfiring

Megyn Kelly appeared to be channeling her Gretchen Wieners on Wednesday — except instead of trying allow “collection” to happenshe tried to make ‘Tampon Tim’ a trending term.

The designation for Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) is intended as an insulting reference to his decision last year to sign a bill requiring schools in the state to offer free menstrual products in all public school restrooms.

The bill would allow feminine hygiene products to be placed in both boys’ and girls’ bathrooms — something conservatives hope they can weaponize against Walz, who has chosen Vice President Kamala Harris as her running mate. 2024 elections.

On X, formerly Twitter, Kelly responded approvingly to a post describing “Tampon Tim” as “Kamala’s dead weight.”

“Tampon Tim is the name,” Kelly wrote to her three million followers. “That is it.”

The original tweet also stated that “Biden was Obama’s dead weight” and “Kamala was Biden’s dead weight,” referring to Democratic presidential tickets that chose voters for the White House in 2008, 2012 and 2020.

If Kelly expected people to get behind her and promote “Tampon Tim” as a mocking nickname for Walz, she was sorely mistaken.

Instead, many people, including Dr. Jennifer Gunter, a gynecologist in Canada, points out that the bill Walz signed is actually, well, good for people.

“Imagine being upset because someone doesn’t want children to leak menstrual blood on their clothes,” Gunter wrote in response to Kelly’s tweet. “You are in favor of period poverty, which seems very anti-Christian to me. Would Jesus have said, “Let them bleed blood on their clothes because they deserve it?”

Others also piled on Kelly, stating that “Tampon Tim” honestly sounds more like a term of admiration than mockery.

So you think children should be forced to menstruate without these products at school? What’s wrong with you crazies? Get a life

Tampon Tim sounds like Santa Claus, but for periods. Just like the night before you start bleeding, he visits your house and puts baskets of menstrual products under your sink. We should sing Christmas carols about him

Does MAGA not understand? #TamponTim isn’t it an insult? When did a man who made sure young girls didn’t bleed through their clothes at school become a problem? Do you mean he doesn’t want them to be embarrassed and can concentrate during class?

You clowns put them on your ears a few weeks ago. pic.twitter.com/3Tgx6ammgc

Ah yes, because wanting to provide school-going girls with easily accessible menstrual products is so wrong 🙄

Remember when you were relevant? No, me too

—Ken Downey Jr. (@Ken_DowneyJr) August 7, 2024

“Tampon Tim” is absolutely not an insult, especially not from the party who wore Kotex Overnights on their ears two weeks ago!

Providing free and accessible menstrual products should be the law of the land, so if this makes Walz a “danger,” then it’s time to get dangerous.

Do you really think it is negative to provide school-age girls with menstrual products? So if I follow you on this, you’re a yes to schools posting the Ten Commandments, but a no to tampons. What is your position on toilet paper? Okay for private schools, but kids in public…

Megan apparently doesn’t remember the embarrassing moments young girls have when they get their period and their world isn’t ready for them yet.

Megyn never disappoints. She’s a piece of work.

A woman. A mother.

And she scoffs #TimWalz for providing free sanitary products to poor girls who cannot afford them. Just despicable. Right is not good. On the loose. Mean. https://t.co/VrKIQSkYFp

Trump rudely accused Megyn Kelly of having “blood coming out of her everywhere.”
Tim Walz wants to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone. #HarrisWalz2024

MAGA refers to Walz as “Tampon Tim”

I mean, he’s definitely going to prevent any chance of a red wave.

— CW (The Jedi Master DISSENT) (@CWJediMaster) August 6, 2024

I had to check why Tampon Tim was trending, good lord MAGA are some seriously misogynistic weirdos.
Imagine thinking that providing feminine hygiene products to girls who need them is a bad thing.

Calling Walz “Tampon Tim” for putting free tampons in women’s bathrooms isn’t the sick burn they think it is.

He’s a legend. He is an icon. And he IS the moment. pic.twitter.com/Sc7oda2R8s

Period poverty is a reality: Students miss school due to a lack of access to menstrual products. As a former teacher, Walz understands how his educational outcomes are affected, just as he knows how hunger affects the learning process. This makes me an even bigger fan of Tampon Tim.
