Meta’s Threads launched less than a year ago. The first launch was in early July 2023. That said, the platform initially grew very quickly, but over time the growth slowed down. With that in mind, Threads now exceeded another user thresholdit counts now 150 million monthly users.

Meta’s Threads now has 150 million monthly active users

Mark Zuckerberg confirmed this, adding that this is an increase of 20 million users since February. Those are not bad numbers at all, 20 million more monthly active users in just two months. Zuckerberg also added that the app “continues to follow the trajectory that I hope to see.”

To give you an idea of how quickly Threads grew in the beginning. The app managed to generate 100 million downloads in its first week and was initially not even available in the EU. It did become available in that region, but only later.

Threads later saw a dip in engagement, which was to be expected after such explosive growth. Still, Threads has seen consistent growth over the past six months based on what was shared.

Based on certain metrics, Threads outperforms X

Engadget reports that Threads even outperforms X (formerly known as Twitter) based on certain metrics. Based on some estimates from Apptopia, Threads has more daily users in the United States than X. This was recently reported by Business Insider.

Threads still has no ads, unlike Meta’s other apps/services. Therefore, Meta does not make money directly from that app. That is also one of the reasons why some users prefer to use it; it’s actually a very nice experience.

Please note that the situation will likely change at some point in the future. Meta will bring ads to Threads, we just don’t know when exactly. We assume that they will be implemented in a similar way as on Facebook and/or Instagram. Zuckerberg himself said that Meta will “focus on monetization” once the app has grown to a certain extent.
