Negligence lawsuit against Alec Baldwin gets the green light

The charges against Baldwin were dropped on January 4 after he was charged in New Mexico with involuntary manslaughter. The measure was intended to prevent his testimony in the civil proceedings from being used against him in the criminal case.

As this outlet reported, the 30 Rock actor pleaded not guilty and claimed he never actually pulled the trigger on the gun. On July 12, after just three days of trial, Baldwin was acquitted of the charges because the judge ruled that prosecutors withheld important evidence from the defense.

In light of this development, the judge overseeing Svetnoy’s trial ruled on August 16 to resume the case after “finding that the postponement is no longer necessary or appropriate and having not heard any objection from any party to his express intention to lift the postponement.”
