New York-Dublin Portal Reopens With Tougher Rules, Limited Hours

The portal allows people in New York and Dublin to talk to each other virtually.

A portal ‘connecting’ Dublin, Ireland, to New York, which was abruptly closed after inappropriate behavior by a guest, has been reopened. According to New York Post, the livestream portal that allows people thousands of miles away to see and speak to each other in real time, was relaunched, but this time with new measures and a shorter time. Organizers turned the switch back on at 9 a.m. Sunday, nearly five days after the attraction went dark, the outlet said.

When the portal first launched earlier this month it was available 24/7, but now it’s only live from 6am to 4pm.

Guardrails were also placed around the portal to prevent a recurrence of previous attacks. Furthermore, the screens will now blur if a visitor steps on the portal and blocks the camera, which organizers called a “proximity-based solution.” the outlet continued.

The New York side will see the deployment of police officers, fencing and signage, while the Dublin side will have physical design features to deal with crown management.

“The team will continue to make updates as necessary to ensure everyone can continue to enjoy the Portal,” organizers said in a statement.

The portal allows people on both sides of the Atlantic to see, but not hear, each other.

The portal was closed after visitors on the Irish side held up images of the September 11 attacks and swastikas. In New York, an OnlyFans creator showed her breasts during the livestream.

The portal is located on the Dublin side facing O’Connell Street. The statue can be seen at the Flatiron South Public Plaza in New York, between Broadway, Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street.
