With the semi-finalists for this season’s UEFA Champions League officially announced, the countdown to the June 1 final at London’s Wembley Stadium has officially begun – and it could feature some of the sport’s biggest stars .

There is also the sentimental value of the domestic match at Wembley, as the last time the venue hosted the Champions League final both teams were in attendance. Bayern took home the trophy that day, and if they make it to the final this time, they could do so again to avoid the prospect of their first trophyless season in more than a decade. Oh, and there’s that little aspect where Tuchel has made a name for himself as Dortmund manager.

It feels like the most appropriate thing for a Champions League final to have two of Europe’s super clubs in the final, especially when you consider the stars on each side. Two of the match’s top scorers, Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane, would compete for their first Champions League title. The added levels of intrigue to this final include Kane potentially hoisting his first major trophy in his home city and the prospect of Mbappe ending his farewell tour on the ultimate high.

Another thing worth considering that could knock this match off the list: This is the trophy PSG has been fervently chasing since Qatar Sports Investments took over the club over a decade ago. If they were to win the title a year later than City, it would only increase concerns around investment in the sport by sovereign wealth funds, which appear to be the biggest power players in the sport at the moment.
