Rankings of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City's remaining Premier League fixtures as Gunners crush Chelsea

Arsenal retained top spot in the Premier League on Tuesday, doing what they could to keep pace with a Manchester City side with two games remaining.

The Gunners defeated Chelsea 5-0 to give them a three-point lead in the Premier League title race. However, Liverpool and City still have to play in midweek, while the reigning champions have the opportunity to close the four-point gap that currently holds them in third place with two games in a row. The results ensure the Premier League title race is as competitive as ever, with particular importance placed on the remaining matches on the schedule.

Since it won’t be long, here’s a ranking of each team’s remaining schedule, from easiest to hardest.

Remaining schedule
Always East/US

  • April 3: Manchester City 4, Aston Villa 1
  • April 6: Crystal Palace 2, Manchester City 4
  • April 13: Manchester City 5, Luton Town 1
  • April 25, 3pm: Brighton and Hove Albion (away)
  • April 28, 11.30am: Nottingham Forest (away)
  • May 4, 10am: Wolverhampton Wanderers (home)
  • May 11, 10am: Fulham (away)
  • May 14, 3 p.m.: Tottenham Hotspur (away)
  • May 19, 11am: West Ham (home)

Five of City’s six matches are against teams ranked eighth or lower. Most of them are firmly in the mid-table and are ready to cause the defending champions few problems as they can easily handle such games in this last part of the season. However, there are two games worth keeping an eye on: this month’s encounter against Nottingham Forest, who will be in desperate need of the points to avoid relegation, and their penultimate game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur. The North Londoners could still be in the thick of the battle for a Champions League place and have a surprising ability to keep City at bay, even if it feels unwise to face City at this time of year bet.

Remaining schedule
Always East/US

  • April 3: Arsenal 2, Luton Town 0
  • April 6: Brighton and Hove Albion 0, Arsenal 3
  • April 13: Arsenal 0, Aston Villa 2
  • April 20: Wolverhampton Wanderers 0, Arsenal 2
  • April 23: Arsenal 5, Chelsea 0
  • April 28, 9am: Tottenham Hotspur (away)
  • May 4, 10am: Bournemouth (home)
  • May 11, 10am: Manchester United (away)
  • May 19, 11am: Everton (home)

Arsenal may have started April with a tougher fixture list than Liverpool, but it’s not just the Reds’ form that’s holding them back in this table. Their north London derby against Tottenham – who are no longer favorites to finish fourth and therefore need the points – and a final day match against relegation-threatened Everton could be the toughest games they have left. That said, Arsenal appear to have bounced back from the setback of the loss to Aston Villa with impressive wins against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea, and go into the tough games as heavy favourites. They are also ready to score big wins against a Bournemouth team that is competitive but short to play for, and especially against a Manchester United side that can’t get out of their way.

1. Liverpool, 74 points

Remaining schedule
Always East/US

  • April 4: Liverpool 3, Sheffield United 1
  • April 7: Manchester United 2, Liverpool 2
  • April 14: Liverpool 0, Crystal Palace 1
  • April 21: Fulham 1, Liverpool 3
  • April 24, 3 p.m.: Everton (away)
  • April 27, 7.30am: West Ham (away)
  • May 4, 10am: Tottenham Hotspur (home)
  • May 11, 10am: Aston Villa (away)
  • May 19, 11am: Wolverhampton Wanderers (home)

Liverpool bounced back from a dreadful week with a win over Fulham, but their remaining schedule could test their abilities to end the season on a high. They have the two toughest teams not in the title race – Aston Villa and Tottenham – left on the calendar, even though the remaining teams they face are ranked eighth to 16th. Like Arsenal, they have a crucial clash with Everton coming up that could cause problems, but keep that in mind Sunday’s defeat against Crystal PalaceThere is a big question about how much gas Liverpool has left in the tank against anyone, not just the teams that need points the most.
