Royal drama 'Sisi films fourth season and reveals first images

Filming has begun for the fourth season of Beta’s hit series ‘Sisi’, which follows the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Variety has received the first exclusive photos from the set of the new season, which will include 24 one-hour episodes.

Dominique Devenport and Jannik Schümann reprise their roles as Sisi and Franz, while Sven Bohse (“Dark Woods”) returns to direct the new season.

In the fourth season, Sisi challenges Bavaria’s best jockey to a major horse race to save the family estate, Possenhofen Castle, after the death of her father. Back in her home country, she encounters dark family secrets and ultimately has to wonder where she truly feels at home.

Since the first season, ‘Sisi’ has been the most watched series of the year on streaming service RTL+ and achieved great linear viewing figures in Germany, Italy, France, Austria and the Netherlands, among others. The royal drama was sold to more than 120 territories worldwide.

In recent decades, the 19th century Austrian royal family has become an international cult figure, first brought to screen in Ernst Marischka’s 1950s ‘Sissi’ trilogy, starring Romy Schneider.
