S Jaishankar discusses trade, technology and global issues with Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani

S Jaishankar was received at the airport by head of protocol Ibrahim Fakhroo.

Doha:

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday met Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Doha and discussed bilateral relations, focusing on politics, trade, investment, energy, technology, culture and people-to-people ties.

Mr Jaishankar, who was on a day-long visit here, also exchanged views on regional and global issues with Sheikh Mohammed, who also holds the portfolio of External Affairs Minister.

“Happy to meet Prime Minister and FM of Qatar @MBA_AlThani_ in Doha this afternoon. Conveyed greetings and warm wishes from Prime Minister @narendramodi to HH The Amir and him,” Mr Jaishankar said in a message in X.

“We reviewed our bilateral relations, focusing on politics, trade, investments, energy, technology, culture and people-to-people ties. We exchanged views on regional and global issues. Appreciate his shared insights on the situation in Gaza,” he said.

“Look forward to further strengthening of India-Qatar relations and continued dialogue on issues of mutual interest,” he added.

Jaishankar’s visit comes four and a half months after Qatar released eight former Indian Navy personnel who were sentenced to death after their arrest in August 2022.

Earlier in the day, Mr Jaishankar was received at the airport by Chief of Protocol Ibrahim Fakhroo.

The visit would “enable both sides to review various aspects of bilateral relations, including politics, trade, investment, energy, security, culture and people-to-people relations, as well as the regional and international issues of mutual interest,” the Foreign Ministry said Affairs. Business (MEA) said this in New Delhi on Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Qatar from February 14 to 15 and held talks with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

“India and Qatar share historic and friendly relations characterized by regular exchange of high-level visits,” the MEA said.
