Director of the Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle speaks out for the first time after the assassination attempt Donald Trump …calling the entire ordeal “unacceptable.”
The longtime Secret Service member — who became director in September 2022 — addressed Saturday’s shooting ABC news correspondent Pierre Thomas on Monday. As Cheatle put it, she has taken full responsibility for the attack, making it clear that the incident “should never have happened.”
She added… “The buck stops with me. “I’m the director of the Secret Service and I’m responsible for making sure we do a review and provide resources to our personnel as needed.”
Cheatle then shed light on Saturday’s tragedy, which left 45 dead shot in the ear and another death at a rally in Pennsylvania. According to the director, the incident took place in a short period of time… which included finding, identifying and neutralizing Thomas Matthew Crookswho has been identified as the shooter.

However, KC appeared to place some of the blame on local police, as she confirmed that they were in and around the building as the gunman fired shots at Trump and his demonstrators.
She continued… ‘There were local police in that building – there were local police in the area responsible for the outside perimeter of the building.’
Whether Cheatle plans to resign in the aftermath of the attack? She said she plans to continue in her role but is expected to testify before the House Oversight Committee next week.
