Sega announces Sonic Rumble battle royale game for Android and iOS

Sega has announced Sonic Rumble, a platformer ‘battle royale’ game for Android and iOS devices. The new mobile game brings Sonic the Hedgehog and other characters from the insanely popular series to iPhones and Android smartphones.

Sonic Rumble is a 32-player mobile game similar to Fall Guys

Sonic the Hedgehog and the countless characters from Sega’s timeless series are coming to the Google Play Store and Apple’s iOS App Store. Sega has confirmed that it is preparing Sonic Rumble, a game similar to Fall Guys, a platformer battle royale game from Mediatonic.

Like Fall Guys, Sonic Rumble has 32 players competing against each other. The game will allow players to control toy characters based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, Sega said:

“In Sonic rumbleplayers take control of toy figures to compete in exciting 32-player Battle Royale challenges, racing against each other to collect the most rings and prove they’re the fastest in the toy box. Featuring iconic characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe that can be customized, players can create their unique avatars and delve into the action-packed gameplay.”

Sonic Rumble will award the “fastest toy of them all” for the character who successfully completes multiple challenges and overcomes obstacles. Sega has released a short trailer. It shows the characters racing to the finish line with changing landscapes and multiple obstacles along the way.

When and how to play Sonic Rumble on iOS and Android devices?

According to 9to5Google, Sonic Rumble is set in a ‘happy toy world’ created by Sonic’s usual villain, Dr. Eggman. Rovio, the studio that gave the world the wildly popular Angry Birds, is developing Sonic Rumble. By the way, Sega acquired Rovio last year for a surprisingly low price of $775 million.

Sega has not yet indicated a definitive release date for the final and stable version of Sonic Rumble. Additionally, it’s not clear whether Sonic Rumble will be free-to-play with ads and in-game purchases or whether Sega will charge players to purchase the game.

Sega has only stated that the game will be released this winter. This suggests that Sonic Rumble may be released during the holiday season. By the way, the third animated film in the Sonic the Hedgehog series is scheduled for release on December 24.

However, Sega has offered the game for beta testing. The company only gives two days to test the game. The Sonic Rumble beta testing window opens on May 24 at 5pm PT / 8pm ET and closes on May 26 at 8pm PT / 11pm ET. Registrations are open until May 19, 2024.
