These early spring days are just a taste of what will happen in the coming months. The sunsets are getting later, there is more moisture in the air and temperatures are just starting to rise. Soon all you need is a light jacket. As the weather starts to change, so do your skin’s needs, and now is the perfect time to upgrade your routine.

You may have already noticed that your skin is feeling the effects of the seasonal change. The humidity means your skin doesn’t need as much hydration (it can even become oily). This means that ingredients that might be irritating to your dry, wintery skin—like retinoids and chemically exfoliating acids—are now fair game. And since the sun gets a lot stronger as we head into summer (which means you’re at greater risk for skin cancer and sun damage), it’s extra important to wear sunscreen every day.

Together, these factors form the basis for the most important changes dermatologists recommend making to your routine from now until Labor Day. As a general rule, you should “replace products formulated primarily to be moisturizing and hydrating with products that contain more active ingredients, such as antioxidants, alpha hydroxy acids, or retinoids,” according to a board-certified dermatologist. Hadley King, MDpreviously told Well+Good.

There are a lot of of products on the market that will help you improve your routine, but this year we’re purchasing all of our spring-approved products from Cosmedix. Developed by nurses and beauticians, the brand launched 25 years ago and has been a celebrity favorite ever since. Stars like Hailey Bieber, Kim Kardashian and Alex Earle they all swear by the products (Bieber even used the exfoliating cleanser on her wedding day!), and for good reason: the brand has everything you need to put together a powerful, minimalist routine that Real to work.

Fresh start

Cosmedix, Purity Balance – $46.00

Main ingredients: Salicylic acid, L-lactic acid, olive oil

Keeping your skin clear means starting your routine with a cleanser that effectively reduces the excess oil this time of year produces. Oil cleansers are generally a good option to get the job done because the oils in these formulas bond with the oils in your skin and pat them away without stripping or irritating them.

Cosmedix’s Purity Balance is made with a blend of olive, moringa, kukui, safflower, sesame, and argan oils, none of which will clog your pores. However, what makes the formula particularly beneficial for spring skin is the fact that the oils are combined with gentle exfoliants to provide even more benefits. Salicylic acid penetrates deep into the pores to decongest them from within; lactic acid melts away dead skin cells for a soothing and smoothing effect; and tea tree oil helps balance oil production.

Keep your fluids up

Cosmedix, Skin Thirst – $67.00

Main ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, witch hazel, lecithin

More moisture in the air means you need less moisture in your routine. That’s why dermatologists recommend replacing the heavy moisturizer you’ve been using all winter with a lighter lotion. Cosmedix’s Skin Thirst fits the bill, and its weightless, oil-free formula ensures it won’t feel sticky or greasy on your skin (and won’t clog your pores) when temperatures reach the 70s. It gets its hydrating powers from hyaluronic acid, which draws moisture from the environment to keep your complexion quenched while providing a nice plumping effect. The lotion also contains witch hazel, an astringent that helps balance oil production. It melts seamlessly into the skin and forms a beautiful layer under makeup and – most importantly – SPF.

Add some exfoliation

Cosmedix, Prep and Reset – $72.00

Main ingredients: Lactic acid, niacinamide, papaya fruit extract

If you and your winter-dry skin have been skipping the exfoliation step since Thanksgiving, it’s time to add it back into your routine. A gentle chemical exfoliant, such as Cosmedix’s Prep and Reset, will help remove the dead skin cells that have built up during the colder months, leaving your complexion looking radiant and radiant again. The double-sided pads are infused with lactic acid, known to be one of the gentlest exfoliating acids money can buy, and have a smooth side and a rough side that provides a little extra physical exfoliation.

Be careful with your retinoid

Cosmedix, Bakuchiol Complete – $89.00

Main ingredients: Bakuchiol, squalane, jojoba and moringa seed oil

Dermatologists don’t completely agree on the best way to use retinol this time of year. Some will tell you to do more of it now that your skin is less sensitive than it has been all winter, but others will tell you to stop doing it because it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun (which you don’t want if you spend more time spend outside).

The easy middle ground? Swap your traditional retinoid for bakuchiol, a plant-based alternative that offers the same benefits without the risk of increasing your UV damage. Cosmedix Bakuchiol Complete combines the glass skin inducing ingredient with hydrators like squalane and jojoba seed oil to give you a clear and balanced complexion.

Wear sunscreen!!!

Cosmedix, Protect UV – $70.00

Main ingredients: Niacinamide, green tea extract, D-trehalose

Sunscreen should be an important part of the morning routine all year round, and one application in the morning is not enough to keep you protected all day. Dermatologists recommend reapplying the cream every two hours to ensure your skin remains protected from the sun. Cosmedix’s Protect UV is an SPF 30 in spray form, making it endlessly easy to spritz over makeup while you’re on the go. Keep one in your bag and enjoy the extra hydrating, antioxidant, and oil-balancing benefits that come with niacinamide and green tea extract.
