Sir Ian McKellen, 85, hospitalized after sliding off stage during London performance, ‘shocked’ audience evacuated – “I really hope he’s doing well,” the audience member said, calling the turn of events “very shocking.”

Writer and broadcaster Paul Nero posted about the incident on X shortly afterwards he wrote: “Audiences shocked by the fall of Sir Ian McKellen from the stage at the Noel Coward Theater this evening.”

Nero said the event staff “worked hard to help [McKellen]”, and added: “Thoughts with him, cast and crew.”

Another eyewitness told the BBC that McKellen appeared to be “conscious” after falling from the stage, noting that “he was asking for help.”

Meanwhile, a representative from the theater stated that McKellen “will make a speedy and full recovery,” adding that he is in “good spirits.”
