Clemishire disputed Morris’ claim that her father had given his blessing to return to the ministry. “Of course we want to forgive, we are called to forgive,” she said. “But he has never had the blessing in my family to return to ministry. We do not believe that someone who has done something like that should be an overseer for anyone in any industry, but especially the church.”

“I don’t think it’s contrite for someone to call a 12-year-old a young lady and try to dismiss what happened as just a heavy pat-down,” she added. ‘I don’t believe that’s conversion. There is not a child on earth to whom anyone would ever have to do that. It’s simply unacceptable. There is no excuse.”

Clemishire said she filed a civil lawsuit against Morris in 2005, saying the statute of limitations for criminal charges had expired, asking for $50,000 to cover the costs of her counseling as a result of the abuse. In response, Morris’ attorney claimed she had been “flirty” and “looking” for his advances and offered her $25,000 to sign a non-disclosure agreement, which she refused.
