The cast of Strange New Worlds season 3 teases what's to come

Beam me up, Scotty.

The cast of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” stopped by Variety Studio, presented by Google TV, at Comic-Con 2024 to discuss the critically acclaimed Paramount+ series.

Rebecca Romjin (Una Chin-Riley) and Ethan Peck (Spock) were joined by showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers to reveal what fans can expect from the upcoming third season, including what genres they want to tackle and the cliffhanger ending of season 2 .

“We have a lot of ideas for the kinds of genres that ‘Star Trek’ can accommodate. And we continue to try to push those boundaries,” Goldsman said. “We’re trying, dare I say, to go where we haven’t gone before when it comes to genre. Besides the tried and true, which is a sci-fi adventure and certainly our attempt to remember the cadence of at least regularly, there has to be a moral to the story. We are spreading our wings and we hope you will like it.”

Peck joked that he had no reason to worry about “job security” until he realized that in season 3, most of the cast would turn into Vulcans – the alien humanoid species that tries to live by logic and reason with so little interference of emotions as possible.

“Until then I didn’t have to worry about job security. I was kind of shocked to see everyone as Vulcans, because I know them so well, having worked them for several seasons,” Peck said. “So it was kind of endearing to see them in Vulcan makeup. I had this really bizarre and surprising feeling of “this is family,” because for the most part as a Vulcan on the show, I was a bit isolated.

When answering questions about the Season 2 cliffhanger and whether Season 3 would resolve the failed Enterprise rescue mission, which saw the crew try to save a planet full of human colonists from the evil Gorn, Alonso Meyers said they were trying to do something to do that “classic for Trek.”

“When you come back for the second part of a two-part movie, it always says ‘The Conclusion Of’, so in season three I promise you will see ‘The Conclusion Of’.”
