'The Floor' has been renewed for seasons 2 and 3 on Fox with host Rob Lowe

The quiz series “The Floor” has been renewed for seasons 2 and 3 on Fox, with host Rob Lowe inking an unwritten first-look deal with the network.

“Fans loved the first season of ‘The Floor’ so much that we have ordered two more seasons of this groundbreaking game show, with plans already underway to make our epic battle for the brains even bigger and bolder,” said Michael Thorn, president of the Fox Television Network. “It was also a huge win to have a big star like Rob Lowe as host, and our viewers and competitors alike can’t wait to see him back in action.”

Under Lowe’s new deal, he will develop new, unscripted series for Fox that will be produced by the network’s unscripted studio, Fox Alternative Entertainment. Lowe is also the star of Fox’s hit series “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which will air its fifth season in the fall.

“I couldn’t be happier with ‘The Floor’ phenomenon and the opportunity to create more unscripted projects with my partners at Fox,” said Lowe.

“The Floor” originally premiered on Fox in January. The first season averaged 5.5 million viewers per episode when viewed on multiple platforms.

The series was created by Talpa van John de Mol and is produced by Eureka Productions. In the series, players stand on an interactive LED gaming floor with 100 squares, each representing a different trivia category.

According to the official description: “The first challenger, selected at random, must choose one of his or her neighboring opponents to face off against each other in an epic quiz duel in the opponent’s category. The winner takes over the loser’s square and gains valuable territory as he expands his territory, while the loser leaves the game. The winner must then choose: do they go on the attack to dominate a larger part of the board? Or will they let The Floor choose a new challenger?”

Talpa is the creator and owner of the format The Floor. The series is produced by Eureka Productions, Talpa and BiggerStage. John de Mol, Mark van Achterberg, Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening, Sean O’Riordan and Shane Byrne serve as executive producers. Anthony Carbone serves as executive producer and showrunner. Lowe is a producer.
