Francis Ford Coppola either has another masterpiece or a dud in his new film ‘Megalopolis’ – and amid comparisons to ‘The Room’, one of the OG stars is betting on Coppola.
News comes from Cannes that FFC’s self-financed passion project is such a mess it’s on par with the 2003 cult classic by Tommy Wiseau – which has been labeled ‘so bad-it’s-good’.

Greg Sestero played the guy who was Tommy’s best friend in the movie — he was on the receiving end of Tommy’s infamous “Oh, hi Mark” line — and he told us that if Francis’ movie is compared to their movie, he probably done magic on his hands.
Greg thinks the maestro of “The Godfather” has clearly done something right if “Megalopolis” is being trashed on the same scale as their film. He can say that now because he firmly believes that the lump of coal called “The Room” has become a bright shining diamond.
The way Greg sees it, Francis had a vision, an FU attitude, and the money to make his dream project a reality… which reminds him of Tommy, who put everything into “The Room.”
His bombshell became a fan favorite, followed by a book and then a studio film-starring retelling James Franco.
He offered this fact to cheer Coppola up: “The Room” has been shown around the world for 20 years and fans still love it.
By the way, “Apocalypse Now” also received mixed reviews when it first came out… and now it’s considered one of the best movies ever.
Anyway… if all this talk about “The Room” has you eager for Round 2, we talked to Greg about that too, and it doesn’t sound like it’s in the stars for now.

He thinks a Broadway musical could be great, or maybe a TV series that catches up with the wacky characters. And yes, he still talks to Tommy, and says the last time they were together they threw a football. Of course they did.

“Megalopolis” hasn’t secured a U.S. distributor, and the reviews aren’t likely to help. But based on Greg’s advice, Francis might be better off doing it all solo. It’s just money, right?
