The vast majority of FCC complaints filed during and after Super Bowl LVIII had to do with a pro-Israel ad that aired… and it appears to have been planned that way.
TMZ has obtained FCC files — including all complaints filed regarding February’s Super Bowl — and there’s a recurring theme in virtually all of the documents … namely that people were angry that the State of Israel was allowed to air a commercial on air.
According to the documents, hundreds of complaints were filed… and a handful of them were about the usual — indecent exposure, risqué outfits, language, etc. And quite a few even complained about celebrity depictions… including Taylor Swift, Ice Spice, Usher and others who were in the house.
Aside from the grumbling about stars…pretty much all the other complaints – literally hundreds of them – all have to do with a spot that aired during one of the breaks: “Bring All Dads Back Home,” produced by Israel.
The ad was about bringing home the hostages still held by Hamas… and it seems like a lot of people were excited about getting airtime during the match.
Many of the complaints contain nearly identical language, which reads in part: “CBS violated FCC rules by failing to properly disclose to viewers on all platforms that the advertisements airing during the Super Bowl were Israeli government were paid.”
The reason that’s interesting… the executive director of an organization called the American-Arab Anti Discrimination Committee tweeted in almost identical language… and even touted the fact that they got thousands of people to file FCC complaints.
In fact, on the AAADC’s own site… they have a whole FCC form ready – so yeah, it looks like they were guiding people through filing these complaints.
While the ED claimed that more than 10,000 people had filed complaints… only about 1,000 were filed. Nevertheless, still a lot.
Also worth noting…the ad actually stated that it was sponsored by the State of Israel – so despite what these people may have claimed in their FCC filings, they were wrong.
It just goes to show… this is a polarizing issue, even today – and we are still months away from the first attack on Israel.
