Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee

New Delhi:

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump delivered a “unity talk” today when he said he was “running for all of America and not just half of America.”

The 78-year-old addressed the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, hoping to build momentum toward a victory over US President Joe Biden in November and a second term in the White House.

“We will have an incredible victory and we will begin the four greatest years in the history of our country,” Trump said in his first speech since a 20-year-old man shot at him, causing a minor wound to his right ear. and killing a bystander at a rally last week.

“In four months we will have an incredible victory… I am running to be president for all of America, not for half of America, because there is no victory in winning half of America,” he said.

He also spoke about the assassination attempt on him at his campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, saying he knew immediately he was “under attack.”

“I knew right away that it was very serious that we were being attacked,” he told the Republican National Convention in the presence of his family. “I felt very safe because I had God by my side.”

“The killer’s bullet came within half an inch of taking my life. So many people have asked me what happened, and so I’m going to tell you what happened, and you’ll never hear it from me a second time because it’s too painful,” Trump said.

Trump also held a moment of silence for Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old firefighter and father of two, who was killed in the shooting at the rally in Pennsylvania

Trump’s wife Melania, who was largely absent during the campaign, arrived to applause but did not say a word.

Trump’s speech comes as team Biden is in full crisis mode, as pressure mounts from the incumbent president’s Democratic Party to end his re-election bid.
