Two drivers and one pedestrian dead after I-25 crash in Colorado Springs
Two drivers and a pedestrian were killed after a crash on northbound Interstate 25 in Colorado Springs on Sunday morning, according to Colorado Springs police.
At 4:45 a.m., police received a call about a car traveling the wrong way on I-25 and multiple calls about a head-on collision, according to a Colorado Springs Police Department news release.
After the accident occurred, another driver stopped and tried to help. As they tried to cross the highway, they were struck by a northbound vehicle, according to police.
The pedestrian and one driver were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver who drove the wrong way on I-25 was taken to the hospital but died upon arrival.
According to CDOT, the highway was closed between Exit 139, Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass and US 24 at milepoint 139 closed around 5 a.m. and reopened around 9:45 a.m.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department posted a photo of the crash on X around 5:20 a.m., but later deleted the post.
