Prosecutor of Georgia Nathan Wade has spoken out for the first time since he resigned Donald Trump‘s case of election interference, RadarOnline.com can reveal.

Wade left the case in March after an Atlanta judge said his romantic relationship with his boss, the Fulton County District Attorney, was Fani Willis, created an ‘appearance of impropriety’. The judge ruled that the case could only move forward after the removal of Willis or Wade.

Willis hired Wade as special prosecutor in November 2021. He was appointed to head the business research that resulted in the indictment of the former president and more than a dozen others for allegedly unlawfully conspiring to change the 2020 election results while participating in a criminal enterprise.

The timeline of Willis and Wade’s romance became a topic of discussion in the courtroom. The couple insisted it started in 2022, but Trump and his co-defendants argued that evidence showed it started before Wade was brought on trial.

Wade defended the relationship as he spoke ABC news on Sunday, calling workplace novels “as American as apple pie.”

At the interviewer’s request Linsey Davis If he regretted having a relationship with Willis, Wade responded, “I regret that that private matter became the focus of this very important prosecution,” adding, “This is a very important case.”

“I hate that my personal life is starting to overshadow the real issues in this case,” he continued.

Davis then wondered whether the couple had considered “pausing” the romance until the matter was over “when democracy is at stake.”

“Absolutely, I agree that could have been an approximation,” Wade replied. “But again, when you’re in the thick of it, these feelings develop and you get to a point where the feelings are so strong that you know you start wanting to do things that aren’t actually the audience’s concern.”

Despite the delays caused by the workplace relationship, Wade said he predicted there would be a “day of reckoning” in the case and that a jury would “do the right thing.”

Trump and his co-defendants filed a motion in January to disqualify Willis from the case, arguing that she benefited from a “personal, romantic relationship” with the special counsel, creating a conflict of interest.

Judge of the Supreme Court Scott McAfee said that although there was not enough evidence to prove a conflict of interest, the couple derailed the case by failing to keep track of how they divided personal financial expenses during the time they prosecuted the case.

Following Wade’s decision to resign, Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform that the special counsel had “resigned in disgrace,” and doubled down on his claims that the case was part of an effort to damage his presidential campaign .

Trump has denied that he is guilty of the charges against him, and no trial date has yet been set.
