As the UEFA Euro 2024 group stage enters its final round of matches, the knockout stage is already starting to take shape, with hosts Germany being joined by fellow Group A side Switzerland on Sunday. In Monday’s drama, Italy followed Group B winners Spain – the only team with a confirmed group record of 100% wins – into the round of 16 as runners-up, ahead of eliminated Croatia. Incredibly, Austria came out on top in Group D on Tuesday, with pre-tournament favorites France second and the Netherlands third. This sets up the knockout stages for some unexpected high-stakes action and Group C was also deadlocked, with England, Denmark and Slovenia all advancing.

This is what the final standings of the group stage and knockout round scenarios look like.

Euro 2024 round of 16 scenarios

  • Switzerland vs Italy: We already know that Group A runners-up Switzerland will take on Group B runners-up Italy at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on June 29, with the winner potentially facing England in the quarter-finals.
  • Germany vs Denmark: The hosts will meet the Danes in Dortmund on June 29 in the round of 16, with the winner potentially facing Spain in the quarter-finals.
  • Quarter-final Spain vs. Germany: This after hosts Germany and impressive Spain put themselves on a collision course to meet each other in the quarter-finals in Stuttgart on July 5 by winning their groups.
  • England vs. Italy quarter final: A potentially big showdown could be the Three Lions versus the Azzurri in the quarter-finals in Dusseldorf on July 6 – assuming both progress through the round of 16.
  • Quarter-final France vs. Portugal: The winners of Group F, Portugal, are already through to the round of 16 and potentially rivaling Spain for a 100% record in the group stage, will face a third-placed side from Group A, B or C. They can now however, against France in the July 5 quarter-finals in Hamburg after Les Bleus finished second in Group D.
