Video shows Richard Dreyfuss trying on five dresses before Anti-Trans Rant
TMZ.com
Richard Dreyfuss‘ Transphobic rant was apparently premeditated – because the guy was in a store right before he took the stage trying on dresses… and we got the video.
TMZ has obtained surveillance footage from late May that shows Richard being helped by some employees of Worthy Girl Consignment in Beverly, Massachusetts, where he later took the stage and made a number of controversial comments, including against transgender people.
As you can see, the employees help the Oscar winner as he tries on five different looks… smiling and laughing with the people in the store before finally choosing one.
We’re told Richard ended up staying at the consignment shop for about 30 minutes, eventually settling on the floral blue dress he wore on stage — which our sources say is from plus-size brand Torrid and costs $20.99 costs.
As we previously reported… the actor then made a controversial appearance later Saturday night at the Cabot Theater … where he stepped out in the dress in question before launching into a tirade about the trans community — among other inflammatory comments.
Now Worthy Girl Consignment is seriously pissed off… as an employee tells us the actor’s rant has offended their core customer base: the LGBTQ+ community, which they’re appalled by.
The employee adds that they thought RD was just a cute old guy trying on dresses, and they never could have known he was up to that.
It’s interesting… of all the stores in Beverly, Richard Worthy chose Girl Consignment… because the company makes it clear that they are pro-LGBTQ+ by hanging a Pride flag on the storefront.
Whether Richard realized the irony at the time remains unclear. Either way, we’re told the store is putting this controversy to good use, creating a Pride shirt that references the incident – with proceeds going to the North Shore Alliance for GLBTQ+ Youth.
We’ve reached out to Richard’s reps…so far no word back.
