Visitors at Six Flags rise almost 70 meters above the ground during storm

A group of thrill seekers got more than they bargained for at a Mexican theme park earlier this month when they were left stranded during a stuck fairground attraction almost 80 meters above the ground during a rain shower.

Viral images The August 18 incident shows Six Flags Mexico’s Supergirl Sky Flight ride at a complete standstill as a group of riders scream for help as they are pelted by wind and rain.

According to to reportsthe ride was lowered to the ground after about 10 minutes and no one was injured.

In a statement, Six Flags acknowledged a “temporary closure” of its attractions – including the Supergirl Sky Flight – during the August 18 storm, noting that “all guests were safely evacuated” and the ride resumed later that day.

“Unfortunately, the storm intensified during the evacuation, creating an uncomfortable moment for our guests,” the statement continued. “Theme park staff took care of all guests and no incidents were reported.”

The Supergirl Sky Flight, also known as the SkyScreamer or the Star kitecan be found in many amusement parks and traveling fairs around the world.

Riders are lifted into the air in double, swing-like seats attached to a rotating tower, which provides a panoramic view of the park below.

Despite its popularity, the ride can be vulnerable to bad weather due to its altitude. In 2018, a similar incident took place at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, leaving riders on that park’s SkyScreamer dangling above the ground during a storm.

“I was hysterical because I thought I was going to see my son and husband die,” said one visitor told later the Philly voice.
