'Wednesday' Season 2 Cast Steve Buscemi (EXCLUSIVE)

Steve Buscemi has joined the cast of ‘Wednesday’ season 2 on Netflix, Variety learned exclusively from sources.

Exact character details are being kept under wraps, but sources say Buscemi will play the new director of Nevermore Academy.

Representatives for Netflix and Buscemi declined to comment.

Few details are available about the new season of “Wednesday,” other than the fact that Jenna Ortega will return as the titular Addams Family daughter going through her teenage years. The first season ended with Wednesday successfully solving a series of gruesome murders while thwarting an attempt to destroy Nevermore and its students.

Buscemi is a highly celebrated actor, known for his ability to take on both dramatic and comedic roles. He has appeared in films such as ‘Reservoir Dogs’, ‘Fargo’, ‘The Death of Stalin’ and numerous Adam Sandler productions. He also starred in shows like “Boardwalk Empire,” “Miracle Workers,” season 5 of “The Sopranos,” and made memorable guest appearances on shows like “30 Rock” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” He has been nominated eight times for an Emmy, including multiple awards for “Boardwalk Empire” and for starring in and directing “The Sopranos.” He won the 2016 Emmy for best short-form variety series for “Park Bench with Steve Buscemi.”

He is represented by UTA and The Gotham Group.

“Wednesday” originally debuted in November 2022 and immediately became a huge hit for Netflix. It ranks as one of the most watched shows the streamer has ever released and was nominated for twelve Emmys, four of which it won. Work on Season 2 was postponed due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes that shut down much of Hollywood in 2023, although production is expected to begin in Ireland in late April.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar developed “Wednesday” and also serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Tim Burton directed the first four episodes of season 1 and is also an executive producer of the series. Steve Stark of Toluca Pictures and Andrew Mittman of 1.21 Entertainment executive produce, along with Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman of Glickmania, Gail Berman, Tommy Harper and Kevin Lafferty. MGM Television is the studio.
