The Girls trip star has been on a sobriety journey in recent months following her second DUI arrest in November 2023.
“Don’t drink alcohol. I’ll never do that again unless I get engaged and I can show him for one day how crazy I get,” said 44-year-old Haddish. Additional in an interview published on Wednesday, May 22.
The comedian and actress spoke about her sobriety and said things are going great.
“I don’t want to do it because it feels good to wake up in the morning and my elbows don’t hurt, my knees don’t burn, and the arches of my ankles aren’t on fire.” No inflammation,” Haddish said.
We weekly confirmed in November 2023 that Haddish was arrested for drunk driving – her second in two years – in Los Angeles after she allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of her vehicle. She was charged with two DUI crimes and pleaded not guilty the following month.
However, both charges were dropped in February after the Haunted house actress accepted a plea deal. Haddish pleaded no contest to a “wet reckless” charge (reckless driving involving alcohol).
“Ms. Haddish has agreed to a simple vehicle code violation – no driving under the influence, which has been dismissed – and is looking forward to having this behind her,” her attorney said. Alex Spirotold Rolling stone at the time.
Haddish first opened up about her sobriety on the podcast “The Conversation With Amanda de Cadenet” in March.
“I haven’t drank alcohol, smoked weed or anything in 72 days,” she said. “It’s not that difficult.”
Haddish said her sobriety was “court-ordered,” adding, “You know, I’ve been waiting two years for my hearing in Georgia, and what happened in LA has triggered Georgia, and they’re like, ‘Okay , we want you to take an alcohol test.’ And I’m like, ‘Cool.’”
In addition to sobriety, Haddish also practices celibacy.
“They went together,” she said People in April. “With alcohol [my mind] would just say, ‘You’re hot, let’s just do it.’ [Now] I say, ‘No, no.’
Haddish clarified her position on celibacy in her interview with Additionalwhich confirms that she is still dating.
“I haven’t stopped dating. I just don’t have intercourse, girl. I love a free meal,” said the comedian.
