Jaguar will end production of almost all of its petrol cars by the end of this year, marking a major shift towards an all-electric future.

The British luxury car maker will continue to produce just one combustion engine vehicle, the F-Pace SUV, before switching to a fully electric model from next year.

Adrian Mardell, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), confirmed the phase-out at a recent investor day, stating that these models were “products with almost no profitability.” The transition is in line with Jaguar’s strategy to introduce a range of new fully electric vehicles, starting with a battery-powered grand tourer coming to market next year.

Jaguar Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern has built up his expectations for the upcoming electric models, describing the first new electric car as something unprecedented. “Imagine something you’ve never seen before that looks like it fell from the sky – and ages [that] by five. That’s how different these Jaguars will be,” said McGovern, promising a design that reflects the glory days of Jaguar’s E-Type while remaining unique.

JLR chief financial officer Richard Molyneux highlighted the strategic move to eliminate cheaper, unprofitable models and replace them with new vehicles built on innovative architectures.

The move to electric vehicles represents Jaguar’s commitment to a sustainable future and a major transformation in the automotive industry.
