Car runs red light and crashes into RTD light rail train in Denver

Multiple light rail lines in the Regional Transportation District were temporarily closed Wednesday after a train struck a car running a red light in downtown Denver’s Central Business District.

The crash happened at the intersection of Stout and 15th Street in Denver around 1 p.m., RTD spokesperson Tina Jaquez said. No light rail customers or operators were injured in the crash.

RTD’s D and H lines experienced delays that cleared around 2:30 p.m., after the crash was cleared from the tracks, Jaquez said.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, said Siena Riley, a spokesperson for the Denver Police Department. The driver ran a red light and was hit by the train.
