The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported:

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis defeated Christian Wise Smith in the Democratic primary as she prepared for a November contest against Republican Courtney Kramer. Supreme Court Justice Scott McAfee, meanwhile, easily won a full term.

Willis’ victory over Wise Smith was never in question. But she hoped to run up the score against Wise Smith to put her in a strong position in November, when Trump’s allies are likely to rally around Kramer. Still, Willis has a strong preference to retain her seat in the Democratic bastion.

Her allies hope a landslide victory will put a stamp of approval on the way she runs the office — and on her strategy for pursuing the closely watched Trump trial, which could be postponed until 2025 because an appeals court considers it a challenge.

Willis mentioned Maddow’s performance in her victory speech:

There’s no doubt that Willis, who doesn’t make much national media appearances, was helped by talking to Rachel Maddow about her performance as a district attorney and the fact that Georgia Republicans never thought oversight of local district attorneys was necessary. until 14 African American DAs were elected.

DA Willis is expected to easily retain her position in deep blue Fulton County in November. Willis’ supporters wanted to deliver a message with a big win on primary day, and they accomplished that task, as her interview served as a reminder of Rachel Maddow’s power to reach Democratic voters.
