If there is a creative engine that drives Habey Club, it is the love of films. The Spanish brand’s latest collection is inspired by the recent dark comedy Sick of myself, a story that tackles the problem of histrionic personality disorder through a protagonist who is able to cross dangerous boundaries, such as self-harming in order to be seen. Designers Javier Zunzunegui and David Salvador used the hunger for attention depicted in the film to talk about the ephemeral, symbolized by flowers: “Roses are beautiful, but they won’t last.” They created leather and metal tops covered in roses that “resembled sculptures,” and crumpled hems to reference the craft paper used for wrapping bouquets; elsewhere, decorations with piercing hoops evoked the idea of self-harm. “They look like embroidered evening dresses, but if you look closer, they are all perforated with rings,” she added.

Second-skin pieces in pure silk voile contrasted with light but sturdy jackets and distressed leather and knitted basics. On this occasion, they favored volume, including some puffy pieces and bold pops of color, such as cherry red (one of their current obsessions) or clinical blue. These colors are also reflected in their accessories, including three new bag styles they are offering this season. Not surprising, because in addition to dresses, bags are Habey Club’s bestsellers. “Most of the [bags] that we sell are quite small, and we wanted to launch more mature, useful bags that you can use every day,” the designers explained. “We make the bags in a small workshop in Cantabria, with a small production. This allows us to launch special drops between collections or create samples in a much easier way.”
