Imagine there is no zoning plan – Econlib

Imagine there

To many people, a world without zoning sounds like a dystopia. Uninformed people often assume that zoning laws protect homeowners from the risk of unsightly industrial facilities being built next door. In fact, regulations against this type of “public nuisance” existed before the first zoning laws were enacted. The actual purpose of residential zoning is to limit the supply of new homes.

That’s how much they hate new homes.

P.S. A few weeks ago, California voters narrowly approved $12 billion initiative to “help the homeless.” Good luck with that.
