Robert Costello is testifying in Trump's defense.

Andrew Weissmann said on MSNBC that Robert Costello delivered a murder shot, but that was on Trump, not the prosecutor.

Weissmann said on Deadline: White House:

Robert Costello. If you’re the prosecutor, you had to go. Thank you for, I think he did give a killing shot, but not in the way Fox News intended. This was devastating evidence. It was a demonstration of exactly what Michael Cohen had said was going on. It’s so stuffy. It’s exactly what happens in mafia cases where lawyers are sent to find out. Will you cooperate? We really represent the boss. That’s what we try to do, that’s what we really do. That’s what the jury could conclude.

The witness clearly said this is not true. The problem for him is that you read in black and white and Michael Collins said I didn’t trust him. I thought that was essentially the case, that everything would be passed on to the president and it would be there in black and white, and that’s why he didn’t hire him.

Costello was a disaster for Trump. Costello was the lawyer who tried to manipulate Cohen for Trump. Costello had to be cross-examined there and confronted with evidence that he tried to get Cohen to shut up and side with Trump.

Aside from the fact that Fox News instructed Trump to do so, it is unclear why Costello was ever put on the stand. Fox News promised a kill shot and a kill shot was delivered, except it was up to the defendant and Trump might be convicted.
