Rep. Jasmine Crockett talks about Marjorie Taylor Greene and racism on CNN's State Of The Union.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) explained on CNN why Marjorie Taylor Greene’s attack on her was racist and MAGA’s racism.

Rep. Crockett, when asked by CNN’s Jake Tapper to explain why she thought Greene’s comments were racist, said, “I think she’s doing this specifically to me.” Yes, that was the intention. As mentioned, women wear makeup, we wear eyelashes, we wear all kinds of things to beautify ourselves. But MAGA has traditionally been on social media doing things where they say, oh she’s black with uh eyelashes, nails and hair. And so she is ghetto. And so to me, this was the fact that she believed in that rhetoric and tried to amplify it for the MAGA audience. And so yeah, I definitely think she just did it to be racist to me.

Tapper asked, “Because it was towards you or because it was eyelashes.” So in that sense, in your view, it is a kind of racist trope?’

Rep. Crockett responded: “It’s a racist trope. But the reality is that women of all colors wear eyelashes, right?”

I like the way Jake Tapper delivered those questions. Tapper is not black or female, so he doesn’t know what racism against black women is. He said from the beginning of the interview that he wanted to understand her perspective.

The main point that Rep. Crockett made was something that is almost never discussed on cable news, and that is the racism at the heart of MAGA. Trump’s MAGA movement is about racism. That’s been happening since the day the ex-president came down the escalator in Trump Tower and gave a speech calling Mexicans murderers and rapists.

MAGA was built on racism, and Marjorie Taylor Greene played into that racism, and more Democrats need to follow Rep.’s example. Follow Crockett and call this out to the media whenever they get the chance to do so.
