Seven people were injured when chemicals leaked from an outdoor pool pump near Aurora Del Mar Aquatic Center on Friday afternoon, according to Aurora Fire Rescue.
According to the fire department, crews responded to the city pool at Del Mar Park, 12000 East 6th Ave., on Friday around 2 p.m. for a hazardous materials report.
Maintenance personnel discovered a pump leaking pool chemicals into the air and turned it off before first responders arrived. AFR said in a post on X.
The department’s hazardous materials team evacuated the pool, checked air quality and treated seven people for respiratory injuries from the chemical spill that were not life-threatening.
Five people were taken to hospitals, according to the department.
The pool is closed for repairs until further notice, city spokesman Matt Brown said in an email.
“The safety of our guests is our top priority and we will thoroughly investigate the cause of the incident,” Brown wrote.
