Colbert played a clip of Trump saying, “I’m fine with it. I don’t know if the audience would stand it, you know. I’m not sure the public would accept this. I think it will be difficult for the public to accept this.”

The Late Show host responded: “Oh, it would be difficult for ‘the audience’. Actually,I happen to have a large part of the audience here one Hey, crowd, what are you all doing? Do you think Trump will go to jail?”

Audience: ‘Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up!”

Colbert said, “Ladies and gentlemen, there you have it. I didn’t say, ‘Lock him up.’ The people said, ‘Lock him up.’

It’s baffling that Trump continues to believe he has all this enormous public support, when the reality suggests otherwise. Trump couldn’t get his fans to show up at his trial. Trump continues to promise a massive public uprising of support, but it never materializes.

At some point, even Trump has to realize that he is not as popular as he thinks.
