Trump claimed Sunday that he supports climate change because rising seas are creating more beachfront real estate.

Trump said:

The biggest threat, not global warming, when they say the seas are going to rise a quarter inch in the next 400 years, you know, which basically means we need some more beachfront properties. Okay. Remember. The seas will rise. Who knows? But this is the big threat. I recently watched Biden.

It’s the biggest existential thing. He likes that word because it’s a big word. And he thinks, you know, he thinks he knows he doesn’t even know what the word means. He says it is the greatest existential threat to our country. Global warming.

According to a 2022 NASA study Sea levels in the US are expected to rise at least a foot in the next 20 to 30 years. The increase will be even greater in the Southeast and along the Gulf Coast. The country will not get more beachfront real estate. The country will experience what is being described as catastrophic flooding.

Rising sea levels will not create beachfront properties, and sea levels will rise much faster than Trump suggested.

We can now add climate change and sea level tariffs and hurricanes to the list of things Donald Trump doesn’t understand.
