What happened in 'Bridgerton' season 2? What you need to know before season 3

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t seen season 2 of “Bridgerton” yet, spoilers await.

Dear dear readers, it has been far too long. Although we were warmly welcomed into the world of “Queen Charlotte” last year, there is nothing better than returning to the original Ton. “Bridgerton” Season 3 marks a new chapter in the critically acclaimed franchise, and there are quite a few changes coming. “Inventing Anna” writer Jess Brownell is boarding the series as showrunner, and this new season is also divided into two chapters. Part 1 premieres on May 16 and Part 2 debuts on June 13. These tidbits are just the beginning of the show’s transformations.

“Bridgerton” no longer follows book order

So far, “Bridgerton” has followed the same timeline as Julia Quinn’s novels. Season 2 showed the love affair between Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Swarma (Simone Ashley), a love story between enemies and lovers full of tension. Now Netflix and Shondaland are shaking things up a bit. Instead of showing Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) search for love, the show skips book three, “An Offer From A Gentleman” (for now), to feature fan favorites Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton ) to focus. , whose romance was first spotlighted in Quinn’s ‘Romancing Mr. Bridgerton’.

Eloise and Penelope had a huge blowout fight

The season 2 finale, “The Viscount Who Loved Me,” was a shocker for Peneople. During the episode, her nosy best friend, Eloise (Claudia Jesse), discovered her alter ego, Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews). Although Penelope’s lie hurt Eloise, she was further infuriated by Pen’s willingness to spread personal information about her and her family, which tarnished her reputation. During their heartbreaking confrontation, Eloise accused Penelope of “self-serving manipulation.” The super-smart feminist told her ex-girlfriend, “I never wish to see or speak to you again.” In the season 3 trailer, Eloise is seen talking to the evil Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen), Penelope’s nemesis, so they clearly haven’t made up yet.

Kate and Anthony return to ‘Bridgerton’, but Daphne does not

Kathony lovers will be happy to catch a glimpse of the sultry couple’s married life. However, don’t expect to see eldest daughter Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor). Like her co-star Regé-Jean Page, who played Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, in season 1, Dynevor has left the series. Fortunately, the characters still live on in the ‘Bridgerton’ universe.

The Featheringtons have regained their social status

The rift between Penelope and Eloise is just the beginning of Pen’s problems. Now that her mother Portia (Polly Walker) is regaining a foothold in society after kicking their thieving cousin Jack (Rupert Young) out of the parental home, taking his money and sending him back to America, the gossip feels about writing newsletters is suppressed. Desperate to distance herself from her mother and her insufferable sisters, Prudence (Bessie Carter) and Philippa (Harriet Cains), Penelope decides to strike out on her own.

Penelope is ready to enter the marriage market

Because “Bridgerton” is set in the 19th century, there are few opportunities for women to gain independence. Penelope decides that in order to protect her Lady Whistledown brand, she must find a husband. It will come as no surprise that years of being a wallflower doesn’t bode well for London’s grueling marriage market.

Francesca Bridgerton has been recast

Hannah Dodd takes over the role of Francesca, the piano-loving sixth Bridgerton sibling. Ruby Stokes portrayed the character in the show’s first two seasons, but left to pursue other opportunities. With Dodd reprising the role, viewers will see a lot more of Francesca as she officially makes her debut in society. Avid fans can read Francesca’s love story in Quinn’s novel ‘When He Was Wicked’.

Penelope and Colin are on the run

The Polin affair will take more than a little flirting and kissing to come to fruition. At the end of season 2, Eloise wasn’t the only Bridgerton Penelope was hanging out with. During her mother’s lavish ball, she overheard Colin talking disparagingly about her, saying, “Are you crazy?” I would never dream of courting Penelope Featherington. Not in your wildest dreams.” Devastated and angry over her long-term crush, Penelope is not part of Colin’s welcoming committee when he returns to London after a summer of touring.

He is baffled that Penelope is paying him for dust. Colin feels uneasy about being sidelined in her life and offers his services as courtship. As the ice around their friendship begins to thaw and Penelope blossoms under Colin’s tutelage, he realizes that his feelings for her are not as platonic as he initially thought.

So, my dear readers, you are now aware of everything you need to know before we dive into Polin’s romance. From what I understand, it should be mainly spicy.
