Michigan grandmother arrested for helping granddaughter beat up student in her elementary school bathroom | The Gateway expert

A grandmother has been arrested for allegedly helping her granddaughter beat up another student in the bathroom of her primary school.

The incident occurred on April 18 at McMonagle Elementary School in Mount Morris Township.

The woman’s name has not yet been released because she is still awaiting arraignment.

Mount Morris Township Police Chief Michael Veach told the local station WNEM that the grandmother and the child had been called to the school for a behavioral interview.

The report explains:

Veach said the grandmother saw another girl her granddaughter was having problems with, so she and her granddaughter followed her into a bathroom.

The grandmother then held the girl down while her granddaughter punched her, Veach said.

The grandmother is currently being held in the Genesee County Jail.

Jamal Bransford, public relations and marketing coordinator for Westwood Heights Schools, released the following statement about the incident:

“On Thursday, April 18, an unfortunate incident occurred at McMonagle Elementary School involving a student grandparent who managed to bypass security protocols and gain unauthorized access to the school building. Mount Morris Township Police immediately investigated this incident. It is crucial to emphasize that no other children at the school were involved or injured in this incident.

The safety and security of our students is our utmost concern. Our school administration is diligently implementing all necessary measures to prevent such security breaches in the future. We are actively working with the Mount Morris Township Police Department to implement safety measures that will protect the well-being of our students and prevent similar incidents.”
