Stephen Colbert talks about Trump going to jail.

On The Late Show, Stephen Colbert responded to the judge’s threat to jail the ex-president by saying he needs Trump in jail.

Don’t miss Sarah Jones’ essay on Kristi Noem, titled Predatory The daily.

Colbert said:

Before testimony resumed today, Judge Merchan finally ruled on the violations and fined Trump $9,000. Now I know. $9,000 may not seem like much for a successful businessman, but what about for Trump? The judge complained that this is the most he can legally fine him, and warned that if Trump continues to violate the silence order, jail time may be a necessary punishment.

I don’t know if it’s necessary for Trump, but I need it.

When testimony resumed, we got a glimpse of Trump’s legal team’s overall defense: It’s that Trump didn’t have sex with any of the women he paid to keep quiet. So he paid hundreds of thousands of dollars so his wife wouldn’t find out he wasn’t having an affair. “Melania, I know this will be hard for you to hear, but you’re not the only woman I don’t have sex with.” Okay?

Colbert isn’t the only one who wants to see Trump in jail. Judging from the reaction of many Americans, they too cannot wait to see Trump in prison. Donald Trump looks rough going into this trial every day.

Trump’s defense is absurd, but it’s also the same defense he’s used whenever he’s been caught doing anything for the past nine years. Trump always claims he didn’t know the other parties in the scandal and that if he was involved, he didn’t do it.

If Trump is convicted of a crime in New York, he is expected to be imprisoned in some form. Legal experts believe Trump will not go to jail but will instead be sentenced to house arrest.

Either way, if Trump is locked up, an entire America will be happy.
