Jerry Seinfeld goes after ‘far left’ for comedy ahead of his 70th birthday
The New Yorker Radio Hour
Jerry Seinfeld reflected on the state of comedy ahead of his 70th birthday – and he thinks modern showbiz has lost its sense of humor… all because of politically correct culture.
The legendary comedian spoke on the New Yorker’s Radio Hour this past week, and he talked about the current state of comedy in general… in his opinion, it’s not great — and it all has to do with the “far left” . which he believes has ruined TV shows and sitcoms.
JS says people need comedy, and yet… they’re not getting their daily dose in the 21st century – especially not in 2024 – when they turn on their television at night to unwind.
Reminiscing about the old days, Jerry says that back in the day, people could come home and depend on something funny on TV – whether it was ‘Cheers’, ‘MASH’ or whatever… and they could rely on a laugh. Today, however, Jerry says this is completely absent.
He blames this, so to speak, on woke-ism and ‘PC nonsense’… which he says has torpedoed creativity, and made everyone worry about jokes that offend certain groups. He also says that scripts are now being reviewed by so many different parties that it’s diluting everything.
“Be grumpy. Be loud and funny. And complain and suffer,” Jerry Seinfeld said in 2020. He says he fits right into the culture of New York City. Today Seinfeld celebrates its 70th anniversary. https://t.co/l1pp58tHVW pic.twitter.com/zLWlyypJxM

It goes without saying…Jerry had one of the greatest comedy shows in history on ‘Seinfeld’, so his opinion certainly carries some weight. However, some are a little shocked to hear Jerry say this.
While he may be dismayed at where comedy is going, he still has a love for NYC.
Despite all the changes in the world, Jerry says the town remains the same as he remembers: full of grumpy people who are real and who love to complain and suffer. While the world turns into something he doesn’t seem to recognize, New York remains the same.
Good old Jerry… grumpy as ever. Congratulations!
