Recent findings suggest that WhatsApp is getting a new UI for the image attachments page. The company continues with the aesthetic renovation that they have been carrying out in the app for months.

The discovery comes from AssemblyDebug in X. According to the report, WhatsApp is testing a new image attachments page that aims to speed things up when sending multimedia. The main idea is to eliminate the two-tab user interface in favor of a single vertical feed displaying your images.

The new UI for the image attachment page that WhatsApp is testing

The current image attachment page appears when you tap the “clip” button within a chat and then tap “Gallery” to send an image. This will display a user interface with two tabs: ‘Recents’ and ‘Gallery’. The first shows the latest photos you’ve downloaded, edited, or taken, while the second shows all your image folders separately for you to explore.

In the new UI being tested, the two tabs no longer exist. Now there is one vertically scrolling feed that shows your image folders first and then the “Recent” images. The change is available in WhatsApp’s latest beta update (2.24.9.20), although it’s not final yet. The source notes that the user interface still needs to be refined before it can be finally implemented. Therefore, it can undergo significant changes during development.

For example, one change that could be useful is to better position ‘recent’ images. This current tab is very useful for quickly sending an image you just downloaded, edited, or took with your camera. Now image folders have priority because they appear first. So in its current state, the user interface may require more tapping or scrolling than before in certain cases.

With these types of adjustments, the massive redesign of the WhatsApp user interface continues. So many changes in recent months may even be “shocking” for some. However, these are done for the sake of a better and more modern user experience (if done right).
