Aurora man arrested for child abuse, kidnapping Friday

A 45-year-old Aurora man was arrested for vehicular homicide and driving under the influence after police said he crashed his truck into a tree Mondayin which a passenger was fatally injured.

James Cooke was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 on East Smoky Hill Road Monday around 4 p.m. when he drove off the road near South Riviera Way and struck a tree, according to a Wednesday news release from the Aurora Police Station.

A 46-year-old woman was ejected during the crash and taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She died early Wednesday morning, Aurora police said.

The woman will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
